Our "Speckled" Story
About Us
Our "Speckled" Story” begins in October 2001 when 7-year-old Alivia and her family moved into their new home and soon after received a knock on their door from their new neighbor, 7-year-old Kayla. As the story goes, Kayla showed up that day and never left. After all these years, Alivia and her family are so thankful for that knock on their door.
When Alivia and Kayla met the bond between the two was instant. With all the great memories, (like the time Alivia tried to teach Kayla how to drive) there were also tears, disagreements, and disappointments, but it was apparent no matter what, they would always be there for each other.
What does this have to do with popcorn, especially "Speckled" popcorn? Everything!
Although Kayla and Alivia were born the same year, when Kayla was born there was birthing trauma that occurred that left Kayla with brain injury. The brain injury has caused Kayla difficulties with some cognitive tasks. What comes easy for Kayla is her keen ability to empathize and connect with people, and a special knack for making friends easily.
"Speckled" Story Continued
As the girls grew older, Alivia knew that whatever career path she chose, she would want Kayla to be a part of it. Well, one day while pondering what Alivia and Kayla could do together, Alivia's mom was popping up some popcorn in the special seasoned oil that the family always has on hand. Yes, you guessed it. This was the light bulb moment when it was realized the special seasoned oil popcorn was so good that they should sell it. The only concern was the special seasoned oil left black speckles on the popped popcorn. But all agreed that the speckles on the popcorn taste so good and should not be removed or changed in any way. Yes, you guessed it again. This is how the name “Speckled” was born. We have come to realize “Speckled” is not just about the delicious spots on the popcorn but the perfectly different spots that define the "Speckled" girls, Alivia and Kayla.
Alivia, Kayla, and family continue to create and produce a variety of delicious “Speckled" Vegan-Friendly and Gluten-Free popped popcorn in the special seasoned oil. Our newest creation is quickly becoming very popular, the popcorn kits include special seasoning, oil, and kernels. and various additional seasonings such as the original seasoning, dill, and non-dairy cheddar flavor. Currently, these take-home-to-pop kits can be purchased at the local farmer markets and craft fairs that "Speckled" attends.
